Our Mission Is Simple

To provide easy, accessible, cost efficient healthy pet food and products to residents and workers of Hartford, while making you feel like family.

Our Story

Naturally Dogs and Cats opened in their first location on February 27, 2014 as part of the City of Hartford’s iConnect program. The iConnect project aimed to re-purpose those empty, street-level commercial spaces and create temporary innovative retail and incubation spaces inspired by the creative industry that enlivened downtown Hartford. Over 45 businesses applied to participate in the program and four were selected to participate.  Naturally Dogs and Cats was the only new business start-up that was awarded a space and ultimately has continued to operate thanks to the iconnect program. Our initial location had cement walls and floors, no running water, and no HVAC.  This location had a very urban feel to it. On August 21, 2014, we moved to our current location at 10 Trumbull St.  This location had all of the things that we lacked in our former location and other things that we were looking for as well.  We hope that you will come in, shop and feel comfortable in our store. What sets us apart from the big box stores is the individual one-on-one customer service. One of those services that we provide is home delivery to the apartment buildings within the Central Business District and SODO areas of Hartford. In addition to fulfilling a need for the residents of downtown Hartford, we hope to provide for those commuting to or visiting the city to obtain their pet food and pet supplies. Lastly, we are the only pet store accessible to the commuter bus lines hence bringing healthy options to anyone no matter where they commute to and from Hartford.

Our Staff

Bob Marshall

Bob started his career in the pet care field in 2008 as a Pet Nutrition Specialist and was promoted to Certified Trainer for the Nutro company within the first year of his employment.  He worked at various big box retailers for Nutro within the Hartford area for five years informing customers about the benefits of feeding natural foods to their pets.

Bob listened to customers wants and needs over the five years that he worked for Nutro and heard loud and clear what folks were looking for and decided it was time to open his own store.

Bob is excited to offer his knowledge and energy to Downtown Hartford and enjoys being part of the community that he enjoys.  He would also like to thank all of those that believed in him and his idea to open the store.

“All I Need To Know About Life I Learned From My Dog”

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Run, romp, and play daily. Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you’re not. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently. Thrive on affection and let people touch you – enjoy back rubs and pats on your neck. When you leave your yard, make it an adventure. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t pout – run right back and make friends. Bond with your pack. On cold nights, curl up in front of a crackling fire. When you’re excited, speak up. When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. If you stare at someone long enough, eventually you’ll get what you want. Don’t go out without ID. Leave room in your schedule for a good nap. Always give people a friendly greeting. If it’s not wet and sloppy, it’s not a real kiss. Author: Unknown
